PROGRAMME EMPOWERS LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS

February 2026.

Daryl Dreyer is one of 20 local entrepreneurs from Hopefield, Moorreesburg and Piketberg who recently celebrated their graduation from an eight-month business development programme. The Enterprise Development Programme offered hands-on training, mentorship and psychosocial support, helping participants strengthen their businesses while building confidence and practical skills for long-term sustainability.

As the founder of Isa Environmental Services, which specialises in environmental education, rehabilitation and restoration of natural spaces, as well as environmental consulting, the programme provided Daryl with more direction.

“Being part of this programme helped me create focus within my business. Through the sessions, I was able to clearly identify which services support my vision and which ones hold the business back. The mentoring pushed me to be more confident and realistic when it comes to costing and financial decisions, while the psychosocial workshop helped me better understand my strengths and challenges as an entrepreneur,” he said.

Throughout the eight months, participants took part in interactive workshops centred on a business development tool that helps entrepreneurs clearly define their value proposition, customers, revenue streams and cost structures. These sessions included one-on-one mentoring and coaching, allowing business owners to refine their strategies and address real operational challenges. Participants also attended a psychosocial support workshop focused on resilience, well-being, and long-term sustainability.

“The programme also supported me in addressing compliance requirements, positioning my business for future opportunities and growth,” added Daryl.

Funded by Umoya Energy Wind Farm and implemented by the Initiative for Community Advancement (ICA), the programme focused on building resilient, community-rooted enterprises that can contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

“Support of this nature plays a vital role in strengthening our communities. By empowering small businesses with practical skills, mentorship and emotional resilience, this programme contributes to creating jobs, inspiring other entrepreneurs and promoting long-term local economic development. The benefits extend beyond individual businesses, improving overall community wellbeing and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship,” said Amber Zeeman, Social Performance Practitioner for Umoya Wind Energy Wind Farm.
